Youth Club
Our youth club sessions bring young people aged 11-18 together at Dexters, our first-ever hub in Brixton. Youth club runs 3 times/week during term time, and five times/week in school holidays.
At youth club sessions, young people are encouraged to explore and develop their interests, talents and potential. They’re encouraged to talk about issues that affect them and their communities and develop initiatives that aim to address them, e.g., a podcast to discuss topical issues, a short film, community events. This helps young people to have their voices heard and promotes social action.
Attendees also take part in a range of other activities, including; workshops on mental health, careers; clubs for homework, Anime, cookery, dance, music (recording, performance) and visual arts (photography, film, art). During holidays we offer trips and excursions such as white water rafting, paddle boarding, sailing and theme parks.
Sports Engagement
Much of our delivery focuses on using sport as a way to engage young people. We offer a variety of sports, including football, American flag football, basketball, futsal, and tennis, at a range of community and school sites.
Participating in our sports sessions provides a space for young people to make friends, try something new, and learn positive leadership skills from their peers and BIGGERUNCLE staff. Our volunteer pathway allows young people aged 16+ to undertake coaching qualifications to become BIGGERUNCLE sessional workers and support the next generation.
Thanks to partnerships with organizations such as Nike, the NFL, and FIFA, we are able to provide opportunities for young people to access experiences that many never thought would be possible.
Holiday Programmes
Our Holiday Programme involves sessions run during all three half-term breaks and the six-week summer holiday. During these holiday sessions, we offer additional sports engagement sessions, residential trips (including our sailing programme), excursions, as well as the chance to try out alternative sports including white-water rafting, sailing, and kayaking.
The purpose of the BIGGERUNCLE Holiday Programme is to give the young people we work with the chance to try new things, experience something outside of their comfort zone, make new friendships and engage in more positive activities when not in school.
